Leap Year and Craft Beer

Last weekend and Monday, we celebrated Andy’s 7th birthday. No, really! My boyfriend, Andy, is a leap year baby. His 28th birthday is really only the 7th birthday he has ever had.image1

In honor of this big birthday, we kicked off the celebrations on Friday, 2/26, with a Craft Beer Tasting Party. I printed out these adorable tasting sheet / scorecards, and everyone who came over brought at least one craft beer to sample {we obviously provided some as well}.

As for food, everyone was given a pretzel necklace to cleanse the palette in between beers and to keep carbs in their tummies. Not like that was an issue, since I made this delicious beer cheese dip with soft pretzels (I modified this recipe slightly).

As for the beers, here is a summarimage2y of what we had and what we thought:

  • Lambo Dor Double IPA by Grimm: Fruity and Juicy, with hints of citrus and pine.
    • Score? 4.5 out of 5
  • Lost Nation Mosaic IPA: Wheaty, Light, Fruity, with a bitter aftertaste and very natural, floral notes.
    • Score? 3.5 out of 5
  • Neshaminy Creek Cream Ale: Creamy, Wheaty, Amber, with Vanilla notes, rich and warm.
    • Score? 4 out of 5
  • Jai Alai by Cigar City: Fruity, with hints of citrus and apple with a warm amber taste.
    • Score? 5 out of 5
  • Sip of Sunshine Lawson’s: Light, Fruity, Hoppy with citrus notes.
    • Score? 4 out of 5
  • Billy Full-Stack Double IPA by Single Cut: Very bitter, with tropical notes of citrus and pine.
    • Score? 4 out of 5.

image3I’ll be honest, we stopped keeping track after those. We probably sampled about 5-6 more after that, but these are high alcohol so we just… lost track.

The picture to the left is just some of the aftermath.

What do you think? Have you had any of these and do you agree with our ratings?
