Wine and Beer!

La Vie Boheme

Everyone knows that I love beer. In fact, you might say that I am a bit of a snob about it. But, here’s something… I also love wine! But I am definitely not a wine snob.

Two Buck Chuck from Trader Joe’s? Sure thing! Let’s face it, I spent my college years (and several of the years that followed), drinking wine from boxes, bags, and jugs. Shoutout to my homeboy, Carlo Rossi!

Fast forward several years later, and while I may be slightly more particular about my wine, I’m still pretty much down for anything when it comes to vino (with a few exceptions…sometimes house wines make me super sick!) But for the most part, it’s fair game. A juicebox for the train? A sippy cup at a concert? What a time to be alive!

Being on Weight Watchers, I’ve become much more aware of just what is in these tasty beverages. Wine and beer are like, a lot of points! The thing is, Weight Watchers is all about managing your diet and balance, so it’s manageable.

When it comes to beer, I just deal with the points, because I am not willing to sacrifice taste for low points. If I’m drinking beer, I’m drinking beer. When it comes to wine, I’m more willing to be flexible. Wine is less points than beer, but it’s still points, usually, about 4 points per glass. Andy and I came across this brand of wine called FitVine, which has less sugar, fewer carbs, calories and sulfites, and has no additives. The best part? It’s only 3 points per serving! Andy was able to find it at our local ShopRite, so I decided to try them. The worst part? Despite the “benefits” of this wine, it gave me a crazy wicked headache the next day…except for the rosé!

Now, back to beer. If you are looking for a light, summery beer, I’m here to tell you about one of my favorite summer beers that I came across last year, Sea Quench Ale by Dogfish Head. And I’ll tell you a secret…it is actually a low calorie beer. Shhh! It’s so perfect for a nice summer day. Add a splash of tequila for a real treat with tacos or nachos. You’re welcome!

If you’re looking for more advice about enjoying a beverage while dieting, I can tell you that nothing gives you more bang for your buck than a vodka soda. I prefer mine with club soda and lime, but diet soda is also zero points, so you’re looking at a 3 point drink. It’s my go to for weddings or anywhere I cannot get a decent beer or my “diet wine”!

I’d love to hear what you’re drinking! Keep the suggestions coming, especially if you’re on a diet, like me!

“…And thirteen orders of fries
Is that it here?
Wine and beer!
To hand-crafted beers
Made in local breweries…”
