Over the weekend, we celebrated our engagement party with an I Do BBQ. It was a ton of fun, getting to celebrate with our friends and family. As you can see from the photo above, we had a really fabulous time.
Of course, a few days before the party, my skin started to break the eff out. I documented a lot of my routine in the days leading up to the party on my Instagram story, but I thought I’d go into more detail here. I had wanted to share this routine before our engagement photo shoot, where I was really worried about how my skin looked, but ya know what happened? I got a wicked sunburn, which completely changed my skin care routine before the photo shoot. Typical.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. The first thing I needed to do was figure out why my skin was buggin’. My stress levels were pretty even keeled. Sure, the party planning was stressful, but my mom did 99% of it, so that couldn’t have been it. My pillow case was clean, and I’ve been working out, so those two culprits were eliminated. What else? Well, on Wednesday, I literally ate nothing but carbs. Ding ding ding! My skin did not like that. My makeup brushes are also due for a cleaning, so that was not helping my case. Okay, so now we’re onto something. In addition to cleaning my makeup brushes, which I swear I am doing ASAP, I knew I needed to pull out the big guns from the skin care arsenal:
- Clarisonic Mia 2: I love this lil guy! The Mia 2 is the perfect size for easy storage and travel. It has two speeds, which makes it great for makeup removal, exfoliation, or just an everyday cleaning. I typically use this 2-3 times per week, but when my skin needs an extra boost, I’ll use it for 2-3 consecutive days, which is what I did to get ready for the party. The tool comes with a small tube of a gel cleanser, which is perfect for travel. You can use the Mia with your favorite face wash, but it works best with gels or gentle exfoliants.
- Eve Lom: I was introduced to this cleanser when I worked for the company Space NK. This cleanser is amazing. I am a purist and use the original cleanser, but honestly, I am a fan of the entire line. Where do I begin? The smell and texture are luxurious. At first, you may feel weird using a balm-style cleanser, especially if you have oily skin, but that’s the beauty of this product – it moisturizes dry skin and perfectly combats oil as a gentle exfoliant. It’s also awesome at removing makeup. My favorite thing is their tried and true technique for using the cleanser. This technique is about massage and lymphatic drainage, and I remember when I was trained on the product, I was told that using this cleanser is not a chore, it’s an experience. There are detailed instructions that come with it, and I promise you it’s awesome. If you’re not into that sort of thing and prefer a quicker experience, it also works great in the shower or with a Clarisonic!
- Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Universal Daily Peels: These are my JAM! Why? Alpha Beta peels are one of the less intense peels, so if you have sensitive skin, an alpha beta hydroxy or lactic acid peel is better for you than a straight up salicylic or glycolic acid peel. This peel combines five of these acids along with chamomile and green tea, so it’s safe for most skin types (always test or check with a dermatologist if you’re not sure!). The peel is simple – you just wipe the pad across a clean face, avoiding the eyes. After two minutes, you top it off with a vitamin enriched pad that soothes the skin and helps to balance the pH levels out. It’s easy, suitable for most skin types, and I’ve found it to be truly effective in combating enlarged pores and evening out my skin. It’s a great preventative anti-aging product too!
These products, along with others that I’ve featured, are all part of my skin care routine. The frequency in which I use them and incorporate them into my daily routine depends on my state of my skin and what else is going on in life. As with any skin product, what works for me may not work for you, so I’d love to hear what products are your fave! I’d love to hear from fellow brides, how did you prep your skin for all of these big bridal moments?
