Started from the bottom…

What comes to mind when you hear the words skin care? Most people think of facials, scrubs and masks for your face. But what about the rest of your body? Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in your body? So shouldn’t we take care of it?

No area of skin on your body is the same. The skin under your eyes is very thin and sensitive. But would you say the same about your elbows? Knees? Heels? I know I wouldn’t!

Which brings me to the topic of this post. I thought we could start at the bottom. Feet! Say what you will about them, but they are important and they take a lot of abuse. We stand on them, walk with them and shove them in uncomfortable shoes. So we need to treat them well. In addition to cleaning them in shower (that’s a given, I hope) and the occasional pedicure, my pro tip is that you “treat your feet” twice a week. It’s easy enough… here are some of my favorite things you can do! Mix and match these tips twice a week for smooth tootsies:

  • Scrub: you can get one for super cheap at Harmon’s, or splurge on this really highly-rated one for a whole $10.00! Do this twice a week (or everyday, if you can remember!) and your feet will thank you.
  • Soak ’em: There’s something about the feeling of sitting in a pedicure chair and soaking your feet. Well, recreate that serenity at home (with a drink in your hand, and in comfy clothes, will candles, and your favorite show… catch my drift?) I happen to use the Conair Footbath with Bubbles and Heat. It’s a great mid-week ‘treat your self’ indulgent moment!
  • Lather them up: Applying a good foot lotion before bed is a great way to wind down. Whether you prefer lavender, peppermint or citrus, there are a variety of lotions out there designed to penetrate the rough skin on your feet. Here is one of my faves. Another great option: Avon’s Foot Works Beautiful Dual-Action Pedi-Peels. These little pads polish feet with the power of glycolic acid, and also contain lots of natural moisturizing elements. These are my absolute FAVE!
