Red Hawk Day of Thanks

Much of the work I do as an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at Montclair State involves working with students. As part of my work in the realm of Student Engagement and Philanthropy, I am the staff adviser and creator of our student alumni council, Students Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT).

For the third year in a row, we participated in CASE’s Student Engagement and Philanthropy Month by hosting our annual Red Hawk Day of Thanks on February 25, a day where we strive to educate students and create awareness about philanthropy and the importance of it at Montclair State.

Each year, we use the hashtag #RedHawkDayofThanks. You can also view photos from the event, taken by my esteemed colleague, Gena Novash.

This year, we broke our previous record and beat our goal with 1,124 students participating in the day, nearly 100 students serving as volunteers and unprecedented staff participation. We set up philanthropy stations at eight locations across campus, and had signage both indoors and outdoors (a struggle on our notoriously windy campus, and this day was no different!).

Events like this take months of planning, attention to detail, an eye for logistics and a mind full of “what-ifs”, support from your institution and colleagues, and an important message: Montclair State relies on the support of donors.
